Construction Birthday Party

I love decorating for my son's birthday parties. I know he's only had two, but still. For his 2nd birthday, I wanted to do a construction theme. He LOVES trucks, so it was perfect for him. I searched different sites for some ideas. First I had to decide on the invitations. I like making them interactive in a way. My husband wanted to try something with a pop-up construction cone, but I wasn't having any luck with that idea. After searching, I found Samantha's Cricut CreationsI made a call to my friend with a cricut and she found me the Mickey and Friends cartridge that had the truck and we were set to go.  Here is my version of a dump truck invite.
Next came the decorations.  I bought some clean, new paint cans and paint trays to serve food in, some caution tape, and balloons.  On pinterest I found the balloon sewing idea and thought it was awesome.  I also wanted to label the food accordingly, so I came up with the cone labels.  I basically traced a clipart image, cut, and glued them from cardstock.  Here are some of the pictures of the decorations. (not the greatest, since I didn't remember to get pics until after people arrived!)

Food and cone labels.
Next comes the cake.  My friend offered to make the cake for us. After much deliberation, here is the final result! Delicious and adorable.
quarry made with horseshoe pan, marshmallow rocks, and blue gel frosting!

And finally, I made mini treat bags by melting crayons into a truck candy mold.  They are my favorite!

The party was a success, minus the 100 degree heat.  The temp cooled down as the party went on, so we could spend a little time outside.  Now I have a ton of "truck" stuff to figure out what to do with!
And I'll leave you with an adorable picture of Caleb in his truck birthday shirt!
